LAURIE MARSHALLa trademark and copyright attorney with over 20 years of experience, currently represents hundreds of businesses in a variety of industries, assisting them with brand protection in a practice that focuses primarily on trademark law and other intellectual properly matters.

 

Laurie’s practice includes a broad-range of intellectual property matters, including international and domestic trademark prosecution, performing and reviewing trademark searches, counseling clients regarding trademark clearance, trademark enforcement, negotiation and drafting of agreements, advising and assisting clients with intellectual property acquisitions and portfolio strategies, and working extensively on trademark opposition matters.  Laurie has extensive involvement with USPTO and TTAB matters including office action responses and TTAB actions.  Additionally, she is an expert at negotiating and drafting settlement and coexistence agreements related to trademarks.  Lastly, Laurie deals with internet trademark and copyright issues such as protection of domain names.

 

Currently, Laurie represents close to 500 clients in a variety of consumer-based and service-based industries including designer clothing, restaurants, food & beverages, health & beauty, fitness, professional sports, recording companies, cosmetics, consumer electronics, mobile applications and social media.  Laurie’s clients range from start-ups and entrepreneurs launching new businesses (for example, companies that work through Shark Tank’s Daymond John Academy), to established brands like Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association.

 

Previously, Laurie spent 10 years at Major League Baseball overseeing the company’s various trademarks in connection with global licensing and merchandising.  Prior to that, Laurie worked at several well-known intellectual property law firms including Pennie & Edmonds, LLP and Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, PLLC.  

 

Laurie regularly speaks on the Legal Aspects of Branding at events and conferences throughout the country.  She has associations with many organizations and institutions including NYU, NYIT, FIT, SCORE, the Museum Shop Association, the New York Public Library of Science and Business, the Independent Retailers Conference and the Licensing Industry Merchandising Association (LIMA).  Laurie also sits on the Board of and is involved in several non-profit organizations.    

 

Laurie obtained both her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor Degrees from Hofstra University.

 

Laurie is admitted to the New York State Bar, Eastern District of New York, and Southern District of New York.
